Unza Radio is Zambia’s only University Teaching Radio servicing the Lusaka community and has been running since the year 2000.station provides an on hand experience for all students seeking to get a Bachelor of Mass Communication (BMC) to produce and present programmes aimed at educating, entertaining and informing the audience.Other than being a teaching radio Station UNZA RADIO is one of the community radio stations in Zambia providing community news, and highlighting community problems and issues, as well as informing the masses on community projects. Unza radio broadcasts from 06: 00 hrs to 20: 00 hrs every day. It seeks to promote excellence through the provision of quality development-oriented programmes and hands-on training in radio production both to students and community volunteers. The station has a live and recording studio with computers using modern software for editing news and programs. Unza Radio also has a newsroom with computers which are connected to the internet for research. The music format is 70 % Zambian while 30 % accounts for the remaining genres. Our News bulletins and programmes are in English. UNZA Radio serves the local community with varied programming including Health, Developmental progammes, Current affairs, News, Sports, Talk shows, Phone ins, and the most listened to news magazine, the LUSAKA STAR every weekday from Monday to Friday at 07: 15 hrs to 08: 30 hrs. The station has more than 50 producers and presenters but currently has 14 Presenters who have programs running.UNZA RADIO is a viable project that should attract both investors and partners who would want to use the station as a marketing tool for sale of their ideas and products.The Station serves advertisers by promoting their products. Among its clientele Unza Radio has a varied list of advertisers. The international brands advertised include MTN and CELTEL. The greatest strength that UNZA radio as compared to other teaching radio stations is the large number of the student body available on campus both on recess and when the university is open.
