The Danish government and the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF), on 8th December 2011 donated to the Integrated Water Resource Management Centre (IWRM) a bus, two (02) Toyota Land cruisers, one (01) Plotter, one (01) Computer Server and numerous field equipment such as GPS and portable physical measuring equipment. Speaking at the occasion, Minister of Lands Energy and Water Development Honourable Chris Yaluma acknowledged the long standing warm cooperation relations that exist between the Government of the Republic of Zambia, on the one hand, and the Government of the Kingdom of Dernmak and WWF on the other.

“The warmth of these relations has been manifested in the numerous kind gestures you have both shown to us over many years of our interactions. Your immense contribution to water resources management and development, as well as issues of environmental protection in general, has assisted us to make the many gains we have achieved in these areas”, he said.

He said the  support could not have been extended at a more opportune time than now, when Zambia is moving towards implementing the new legal framework for water resources management.

Mr Yaluma said the donation would ultimately have the effect of ensuring sustainability and sound water resources management in Zambia, and, therefore, make a huge contribution towards the attainment of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Present at the function were the Danish ambasador to Zambia Thomas Schjerbeck and University of Zambia Vice-Chancellor Prof Stephen Simukanga

Government through the Water Sector Support Programme developed by the Ministry in collaboration with the Royal Danish Embassy, initiated the establishment of IWRM Capacity Building at the University of Zambia.
