Parallel Education Programs

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons wishing to be admitted to the following degree programmes in the School of Education under the Parallel Education Programme.  Candidates who applied for full-time programmes for the 2011 academic year and were not selected but wish to be considered for the parallel programme should re-apply.  Candidates who had applied for the parallel programme need not re-apply. Classes under the programme are usually held during week days between 17 00 h and 20 00 h.
A. THE PROGRAMMES

  1. BACHELOR OF ARTS WITH EDUCATION.: Admission Requirements: Grade 6 or better in English Language and in FOUR other subjects including History, Geography, Civic Education, French, Literature in English, Mathematics, a Zambian Language, Economics/Commerce, Additional Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and any other acceptable subject OR a University of Zambia Diploma or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  2. BACHELOR OF EDUCATION (ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION).: Admission Requirements: Grade 6 or better in English Language and in FOUR other subjects including History, Geography, Civic Education, French, Literature in English, Mathematics, a Zambian Language, Economics/Commerce, Additional Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and any other acceptable subject OR a University of Zambia Diploma or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  3. BACHELOR OF EDUCATION (SOCIAL SCIENCES).:Admission Requirements: UNZA Secondary Teachers’ Diploma in the social sciences (Geography, History, English, French, Literature in English, Civic education, Religious Studies) or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  4. BACHELOR OF ARTS WITH LIBRARY AND INFORMATION STUDIES.: Admission Requirements: Grade 6 or better in English language and in FOUR other subjects including History, Geography, French, Literature in English, Mathematics, a Zambian Language, Economics/Commerce, Additional Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and any other acceptable subject.
  5. BACHELOR OF ADULT EDUCATION.: Admission Requirements: EITHER Grade 6 or better in FIVE subjects including English Language OR Diploma in Adult Education of the University of Zambia or of any recognized institution of higher learning or its equivalent OR Diploma or First Degree or any degree of the University of Zambia or of any university recognized by the University of Zambia OR Diploma of the University of Zambia obtained through Extension Studies.
  6. BACHELOR OF EDUCATION (SPECIAL EDUCATION) 1ST YEAR ENTRY:Admission Requirements: Grade 6 or better in English Language and in any FOUR other subjects including History, Geography, French, Literature in English, Mathematics, a Zambian Language, Economics/Commerce, Additional Mathematics, a Science subject and any other acceptable subjects.
  7. BACHELOR OF EDUCATION (SPECIAL EDUCATION): 3RD YEAR ENTRY:Admission Requirements:  Grade 6 or better in FIVE subjects including English Language PLUS UNZA Diploma in Special Education OR TVTC Diploma in Guidance and Counseling OR an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  8. BACHELOR OF EDUCATION-SECONDARY (MATHEMATICS OR SCIENCE):Admission Requirements: Grade 4 or better in O’ level Mathematics PLUS UNZA Secondary Teacher’s Diploma in Mathematics or Science OR an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  9. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE WITH EDUCATION (BSC.ED):Admission Requirements: Grade 6 or better in English Language; Grade 4 or better in O’ level Mathematics PLUS Grade 6 or better in Biology (or Agricultural Science), Chemistry and Physics OR Grade 6 or better in Science, Biology(or Agricultural Science) and any other acceptable subject
  10. BACHELOR OF EDUCATION IN PRIMARY EDUCATION (B.ED, PRIMARY):Admission Requirements: Primary teaching qualification (e.g. PTC, APC or equivalent) PLUS Grade 6 in English language and in FOUR other subjects OR Primary Teachers’ Diploma.
  11. DIPLOMA IN TEACHING:The Diploma in Teaching is intended to provide initial teacher education to university graduates whose undergraduate programmes did not include professional courses in education. Admission requirements: A bachelor’s degree of the University of Zambia in a Science-based discipline (e.g. Natural Sciences, Engineering, Agricultural Sciences, Medicine, etc) OR of any recognized university.

  1.  METHOD OF APPLYING
  • Application forms can be obtained from Academic Office, UNZA, on payment of a non-refundable application fee of K150, 000 for Zambians or $60.00 for non-Zambians.
  • Application forms can also be downloaded from the official UNZA website: www.unza.zm.  In this case, the application fee will be paid to Academic Office on submission of completed application forms.

Completed applications forms should reach the University not later than 6th May 2011.
