World Fish Migration Day 2014
The world fish migration is an annual day set aside to commemorate the migration of fish in our rivers, lakes and oceans. Many species of fish migrate for various reasons that include feeding, reproducing and general survival. If these species can’t migrate, their populations will die out. This has happened with many species in different places around the world already. Some of the species that are known to migrate during the course of their lives in Zambia are the Tigerfish (Hydrocynusvitattus), Goliath Tigerfish (Hydrocynus goliath), Lake Salmon (Latesstappersi), Freshwater Eels (Mastacembalus), Labeos(Labeo species) Lake Sardines (Stolothrissatanganicae). Fish migration is therefore a very important phenomenon in as far as fish species diversity is concerned.
