The University of Zambia (UNZA), Department of Food Science and Nutrition invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for a place in second year on the following undergraduate full-time programme for the 2018/2019 academic year beginning on 4th February 2019.


This programme has a duration of four (4) years when commenced in second year. It is a multi-disciplinary subject that interfaces disciplines such as microbiology, chemistry, engineering, agriculture and business. It involves the study of food processing of products such as yoghurt, beer, cornflakes, fruit juice, chocolate, sausage, polony, edible oils, etc as well as aspects of food quality and safety.

The minimum entry requirements are:

  1. A Diploma in a science based programme such as Agriculture, Nutrition, Lab science or a related subject with at least a credit (or pass with at least 2 years working experience) from the University of Zambia affiliated Colleges or the equivalent from another recognized Institution/College.


  1.  Three (3) ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Sciences and Mathematics or Physics and at least a credit in ‘O’ level Mathematics or Physics if not taken at ‘A’ level.

The completed application form should be submitted to the Department of Food Science and Nutrition in the School of Agricultural Sciences with non-refundable application fee of K150 for Zambian nationals or USD 60 or Kwacha equivalent for non-Zambians.  

Applicants  should  deposit  the  application  fee  to First  National  Bank  Zambia,  UNZA Registrar’s A/C, NO. 62607694371 head  Office  Acacia  Branch or pay for the application fee by visa card at the academic office . ENSURE that,  you  attach  the original deposit slip with the full names of the applicant written on the deposit slip as proof of payment for the application form to be processed.
