Short Courses

The Polygram short courses are tailor made and held on a quarterly basis with the aim of raising the capacities of Researchers, Policy Makers and Program Managers to engage more effectively and achieve evidence based policy and program decision-making. They are also targeted at practitioners working in Public, Private, Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), Students and members of the public who may be interested and working in an environment related to Research, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation. Some of the courses conducted are:

i. Designing Monitoring and Evaluation

The course covers:

  • Fundamentals of project design
  • Process of setting indicators and targets
  • Considerations when designing a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) system
  • Monitoring and Evaluation tools
  • Designing and managing evaluations

ii. Research Methods and Data Analysis

The course covers:

  • Identifying and defining research questions
  • Research designs
  • Study population, study unit and sampling
  • Data collection, processing and analysis
  • Report writing and utilization of research findings
  • Ethics in research

iii. Public Policy Analysis

The course covers:

  • Introduction to policy analysis as a systematic way of thinking about public policies
  • Components of public policy
  • Defining and analysing public policies and policy problems
  • Analytical approaches to public policy
  • Articulating relevant decision making criteria for policy analysis
  • Evaluating alternative policy options
  • Frameworks available for policy analysis and their relevance in given context
  • Writing concise policy memos/briefs

Entry Requirements: All applicants must have a university/college certificate.
