SCHOOL OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES
JOB TITLE: LECTURER, HUMAN NUTRITION (1 POSITION)

Purpose: To teach, conduct research and carry out other academic related tasks.

Qualifications:

  •     Grade 12 Certificate or its equivalent;
  •     Bachelor’s degree in Human Nutrition, Dietetics or related subject;
  •     Master of Science or PhD in Dietetics or Human Nutrition Sciences;
  •     Must have experience of teaching or research at College or University level;
  •     Must have proof of publications;
  •     Must be computer literate;

JOB TITLE: TECHNOLOGIST (1 POSITION)

Purpose: Responsible for assisting the Chief Scientist in the provision of technical support to the department and carrying out experiments.

Responsibilities:

  •     Plans, demonstrates and supervises all laboratory experiments in the stated courses.
  •     Supervises technical staff in laboratory techniques and operation of instruments.
  •     Supervises students’ projects
  •     Sets up apparatus for experiments, teaching and research.
  •     Assists lecturers with research work
  •     Analyses experiment samples or specimen from clients within and outside the University community.
  •     Produces laboratory manuals and report books.
  •     Ensures that equipment and chemicals are placed in appropriate locations to avoid accidents and that the lab is  safe to work in.
  •     Provides First Aid to accident victims and keeps a record of accidents;

Qualifications:

  •     Grade 12 Certificate or its equivalent;
  •     Higher National Diploma/Technologist Diploma/Diploma in Chemistry or its equivalent diploma in science laboratory technology.
  •     At least three (3) years relevant experience;
  •     Computer literacy would be an added advantage.

SCHOOL OF EDUCATION
JOB TITLE: LECTURER, ADULT EDUCATION AND EXTENSION STUDIES (2 POSITIONS)

Purpose: To teach, conduct research and carry out other academic related tasks.

Qualifications:

SCHOOL OF MINES

JOB TITLE: PROFESSOR/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/SENIOR LECTURER/LECTURER, MINING ENGINEERING, DEPARTMENT OF MINING ENGINEERING (1 POSITION)

Purpose: To teach, conduct research and carry out other academic related tasks.

Qualifications:

  •     Grade 12 Certificate or its equivalent;
  •     Bachelor of Mining Science/Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Engineering in Mining Engineering;
  •     Master of Mining Science/Master of Science or PhD in any of the following specializations;
  •     Geostatistics and Resource Estimation;

Qualifications:

JOB TITLE: SCIENTIST, DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY (2 POSITIONS)

Purpose: To provide technical support to the department in carrying out technical and academic activities.

Responsibilities:

  •     Plans, supervises and coordinates work activities for the technical staff in the Department as assigned;
  •     Plans and demonstrates laboratory practicals to students;
  •     Custodian of all laboratory property;
  •     Prepares and ensures timely production of laboratory manuals and report books;
  •     Assists in preparation of budget for laboratory requirements;
  •     Provides technical assistance to researchers in the Department;

JOB TITLE: CHIEF CARTOGRAPHER, DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY AND ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES (1 POSITION)

Purpose: To provide technical support to the department in carrying out cartographic and other academic activities.

Responsibilities:

  •     Prepares, coordinates and participates in the preparation or review of work plans, policies, work/laboratory manuals, laboratory report books, procedures and related documentation;
  •     Responsible for administrative work such as ordering of cartographic materials, equipment and other requisites for the department;
  •     Offers technical advice as may be required by academic staff for their research and teaching work;
  •     Supervises all cartographic staff in the department;
  •     Demonstrates techniques and procedures to students during cartographic laboratory sessions;
  •     Prepares cartographic laboratories in digital mapping;
  •     Ensures maintenance of all infrastructure, equipment and instruments in the department and coordinates Geography field course;
  •     Participates in the preparation of Departmental budget;
  •     Maintains an updated inventory of all laboratory equipment and requisites, records on stock and other reports on laboratory operations;
  •     Ensures adherence to safety standards and provides First Aid to accident victims;
  •     Participates in the preparation of quarterly and annual operational performance reports.

Qualifications:

  •     Grade 12 Certificate or its equivalent;
  •     Bachelor’s degree in Cartography, Geography, Natural Resources Management, Geomatics or any related field;
  •     Higher National diploma or Diploma in Cartography/Remote Sensing and Geographical Information Systems would be an added advantage;
  •     At least three (3) years’ experience in cartographic environment; and
  •     Knowledge of GIS, Remote Sensing and Cartographic Software would be an added advantage.

GRADUATE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
JOB TITLE: MANAGER, OPERATIONS AND EXECUTIVE EDUCATION (1 POSITION)

Purpose: Responsible for the administration of the School’s operations and the development and implementation of executive education programmes.

Responsibilities:

  •     Provides support to the Director on the development and implementation of the School’s strategy;
  •     Establishes effective operational systems and procedures;
  •     Ensures the preparation of a procurement plan and budget for the Graduate School of Business;
  •     Develops plans for the Executive Education Programmes of the Graduate School of Business;
  •     Oversees the day to day operations of the customer service, information technology, marketing and business development;
  •     Oversees service level agreements on best practice in the delivery of executive online courses by monitoring student feedback for online delivery and resolving any problems arising thereof;
  •     Monitors expenditure against budget in the Executive Education Programmes and enforces action to ensure operations are within budget;
  •     Builds and maintains strong client relationships with the corporate sector and partner University to support the School’s Executive Education Programmes;
  •     Oversees preparation of brand guidelines for the Graduate School of Business handbooks, brochures, Journals and other marketing collateral and publications;
  •     Coordinates delivery of executive education programs;
  •     Monitors and ensures that all staff are following a performance management plan;
  •     Enforces discipline among subordinate staff in accordance with the University’s code of conduct;
  •     Orients newly employed staff and supervises the same to ensure adherence to approved set standards and procedures; and
  •     Prepares regular performance review reports to guide decision making by the Director and School Management;

REGISTRAR’S UNIT


JOB TITLE: MANAGER, TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT (1 POSITION)

Purpose: Responsible for planning, coordination, implementation and monitoring of training and development activities in line with the Staff Development Policy of the University of Zambia.

Responsibilities:

  •     Spearheads the preparation of work plans;
  •     Prepares annual training plans and budgets;
  •     Coordinates training and development activities;
  •     Interprets the Staff Development Policy to employees;
  •     Secures and disseminates information on scholarships to staff on the Staff Development Programmes;
  •     Provides secretarial services to the Staff Development Committee and related Committees;
  •     Enforces staff discipline in accordance with the provisions of the Higher Education Act and Disciplinary Code of Conduct;
  •     Spearheads monitoring of the academic performance of staff on the Staff Development Programme;
  •     Ensures that appropriate action about progress reports received on the performance of staff on the Staff Development
  •     Programme is taken;
  •     Coordinates timely preparation of the departmental budget;
  •     Prepares quarterly and annual reports and submit them to the superior for appropriate action;

JOB TITLE: MANAGER, CUSTOMER RELATIONS (1 POSITION)

Purpose: Responsible for planning, coordination, implementation and monitoring of customer relation activities at the University of Zambia.

Responsibilities:

  •     Conducts customer satisfaction survey and ensures that customers are having quality interactions;
  •     Ensures marketing of University of Zambia products and services to prospective and existing customers;
  •     Ensures that accurate customer data is captured, and maintains customer records;
  •     Maintains records of all customer interactions in form of requests complaints and inquiries;
  •     Ensures that all challenges relating to the students information system are recorded, reported and resolved within the shortest possible time;
  •     Ensures that all recorded customer complaints, inquires, requests and suggestions are resolved within acceptable timelines;
  •     Ensures that customer service processes are reviewed to meet customer needs and expectations;
  •     Oversees that students are correctly billed for registered courses and payments reflect on the system;
  •     Ensures that all payments made for UNZA products and services at Customer Service Centre are accounted for;
  •     Supervises that certificates are distributed efficiently to deserving Grandaunts;
  •     Ensures that application forms sold and received are accurately recorded;
  •     Coordinates the dispatch of admission letters to successful students;
  •     Ensures that student registration processes and procedures are adhered to;
  •     Manages the Academic Office website page;
  •     Conducts regular training in customer service trends;
  •     Implements guidelines and procedures on students’ complaints and appeals;

VICE CHANCELLOR’S UNIT


JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT INTERNAL AUDITOR (3 POSITIONS)

Purpose: Responsible for carrying out audit assignments at the University of Zambia and highlighting variances in transaction recording and financial accounting for remedial action.

Responsibilities:

  •     Prepares and participates in the preparation or review of work plans, policies, work manuals and procedures and related documentation;
  •     Participates in determining whether schools/units/departments in the University are performing their planning, accounting, custodial or control activities in compliance with management policies, procedures and in a manner consistent with institutions objectivity’s high standards of administrative practices;
  •     Participates in surveying functions and activities in assigned areas to determine the nature of operations and adequacy in the system;
  •     Obtains, analyses and appraises data to make an informed opinion about the adequacy and effectiveness of the system, and efficiency of the performance of activities under review;
  •     Participates in the preparation of Internal Audit Unit’s annual budget proposal, including estimates of costs associated with the Unit’s operations;
  •     Participates in the preparation of quarterly and annual operational performance reports.

Qualifications:

  •     Grade 12 School Certificate or its equivalent;
  •     Level II ACCA, CIMA Management Level, ZICA Licentiate, Bachelor of Accountancy or its equivalent;
  •     At least three (3) years relevant work experience;
  •     Member of Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (proof of valid membership to be attached); and
  •     Must be Computer literate.

JOB TITLE: MANAGER QUALITY ASSURANCE- ACADEMIC (1 POSITION)

Purpose: Ensuring quality assurance in all academic functions of the University in conformity with national and international best practices

Responsibilities:

  •     Preparing and participating in the preparation of work plans;
  •     Participating in the formulation/review of policies and preparation /review of work manuals and procedures and related documentation;
  •     Initiates the formulation of policies pertaining to quality assurance;
  •     Designing quality assurance monitoring and evaluation plans;
  •     Implementing quality assurance polices, and monitoring and evaluation plans;
  •     Generating essential management documents such as annual and quarterly reports including financial reports (budget);
  •     Conducting periodical evaluations to measure the level of adherence to quality assurance set standards;
  •     Setting and or adaptation of best practices and international standards;
  •     Analysing quality assurance evaluation data in order to identify any deviations from quality assurance standards;
  •     Ensuring that the University complies with national and international standards and legislation pertaining to quality assurance in University education;
  •     Benchmarking practices in the University with those for leading Universities in region in order to introduce best practices;
  •     Reviewing quality assurance policies as and when necessary to ensure that they effectively address prevailing quality assurance challenges;
  •     Interpreting and communicating quality assurance standards to ensure that quality standards are understood and pursued at all the levels of the University;
  •     Sensitising University staff on the importance of quality assurance;
  •     Demanding compliance to national and international standards; and
  •     Participating in the preparation of quarterly and annual operational performance reports.

Qualifications:

CENTRE FOR INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES (CICT)


JOB TITLE: MANAGER, QUALITY ASSURANCY AND SECURITY (1 POSITION)

Purpose: To ensure that ICT/security control service provisions are commensurate with the requirements and standards of the various university stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  •     Defines systems, network, software and hardware standards for the University;
  •     Brings together staff from different disciplines and drives the group to plan, formulate and agree on comprehensive quality procedures;
  •     Installs and configures security policies in all communication devices to ensure the safety of both data and hardware resources;
  •     Develops, maintains, communicates, enforces and publishes the Information and Security Policy.

Qualifications:

  •     Grade 12 Certificate or its equivalent;
  •     Bachelor’s degree in Computer Studies, Engineering or ICT related field;
  •     Master’s degree in ICT or related filed would be an added advantage;
  •     Must have Certification in CCNA, CCNP or MCSE;
  •     Must have knowledge of Linux, Windows 2003 server, Virtualization, vLans configurations, Network monitoring, Routing, Switching and skills in Bandwidths Management;
  •     At least five (5) years relevant work experience with firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems; and network, server, and desktop environments (e.g Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, AS/400 mainframe, Citrix, Cisco);
