JOB TITLE: LECTURER, DEPARTMENT OF LANGUAGE AND SOCIAL SCIENCES EDUCATION (01 POSITION)

Purpose: To teach, conduct research and carry out other academic related tasks.
Qualifications:
(i) Grade 12 Certificate or its equivalent.
(ii) Bachelor of Arts with Education or its equivalent with a major in African Languages.
(iii) Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics/Literacy and Language or its equivalent with a bias to African Languages
(iv) PhD in Applied Linguistics with a bias in African Languages would be an added advantage.
(v) At least two (2) years teaching or research experience at College or University Level.
(vi) Must have proof of some publications.
(vii) Must be Computer literate

JOB TITLE: LECTURER, DEPARTMENT OF ADULT EDUCATION AND EXTENSION STUDIES (02 POSITIONS)

SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

JOB TITLE: LECTURER, DEPARTMENT OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL AND HISTORICAL STUDIES (02 POSITIONS)

Purpose: To teach, conduct research and carry out other academic related tasks.
Qualifications:
(i) Grade 12 Certificate or its equivalent.
(ii) Bachelor of Arts degree in History.
(iii) Master’s degree in History.
(iv) PhD in History would be an added advantage.
(v) At least two (2) years teaching or research experience at College or University Level.
(vi) Must have proof of some publications.

SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES

JOB TITLE: SCIENTIST (04 POSITIONS)

Purpose: To Assist the Chief Scientist in providing administrative and technical support to the department.
Responsibilities:
(i) Assists the Chief Scientist in supervision of technical staff and allocation of duties.
(ii) Supervises technical staff in laboratory techniques and operation of instruments,
(iii) Ensures satisfactory care and maintenance of laboratory equipment used for teaching and research.
(iv) Participates in carrying out departmental consultancy works in analyzing samples or specimen from clients within and outside the University.
(v) Facilitates procurement of laboratory equipment, spare parts and other requisites.
(vi) Participates in the preparation of departmental budgets.
(vii) Maintains updated inventory of laboratory equipment and requisites as well as other reports on laboratory operations.
(viii) Participates in the preparation of quarterly and annual operational performance reports.
(ix) Participates in the production of laboratory manuals and report books
(x) Ensures adherence to safety standards and provides First Aid to accident victims and keep record of accidents.
(xi) Assists the Chief Scientist in matters of staff discipline, leave and performance appraisal assessments.
Qualifications:
(i) Grade 12 Certificate or its equivalent.
(ii) Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences
(iii) At least three (3) years post qualification relevant work experience.
(iv) Must be Computer literate.

JOB TITLE: TECHNOLOGIST (03 POSITIONS)

Purpose: To prepare and conduct student practicals.
Responsibilities:
(i) Assists the Scientist in setting up experiments as well as performing demonstrations to students on how to operate technical laboratory equipment.
(ii) Responsible for technical preparation of laboratory practicals for students.
(iii) Ensures proper treatment and storage of laboratory samples.
(iv) Assists in ensuring safety and hygiene in the laboratories and giving First Aid to accident victims and submit records of accidents to the Scientist.
(v) Carries out regular maintenance of laboratory equipment.
(vi) Participates in the production of laboratory manuals and report books.
(vii) Assists academic staff in research and consultancy work.
(viii) Prepares biological samples and chemical solutions for preservation of specimen.
(ix) Assists in taking inventory of the laboratory chemicals and equipment in the laboratory.
Qualifications:
(i) Grade 12 Certificate or its equivalent.
Higher National Diploma/Technologist Diploma/Diploma in Biomedical Sciences or related field.
(iii) At least three (3) years post qualification relevant work experience.
(iv) Must be Computer literate.

JOB TITLE: LABORATORY ASSISTANT (02 POSITIONS)

Purpose: To assist the technical staff in different departmental laboratories in preparing laboratory solutions and cleaning of laboratory apparatus.
Responsibilities:
(i) Cleans laboratory and laboratory apparatus to be used for student practicals, research and diagnostics.
(ii) Cleans laboratory and laboratory apparatus after student practicals, research and diagnostic work.
(iii) Participates in sample collection for teaching, research and diagnostic work.
Qualifications:
(i) Grade 12 Certificate with credit or better in biology/chemistry/science.
(ii) One (1) year work experience in a laboratory would be an added advantage.
(iii) Must be Computer literate.

REGISTRAR’S UNIT

JOB TITLE: CHIEF SECURITY OFFICER (01 POSITION)

Purpose: Responsible for spearheading planning functions and directing the implementation of security strategies in order to protect the University community and stakeholders and to create a crime free environment.
Responsibilities:
(i) Preparing and participating in the preparation of work plans
(ii) Participating in the formulation/review of policies and preparation /review of work manuals and procedures and related documentation.
(iii) Coordinating security administration and operations for the purpose of safeguarding University property and lives.
(iv) Planning daily, weekly, monthly and annual security strategies, duty schedules and briefing supervisors on new security developments and implementation process.
(v) Protecting the University property and assets and safeguard the lives of all members of the University community.
(vi) Control security activities such as guarding and inspection of vulnerable and strategic points in the University.
(vii) Reviewing and developing comparative security strategies in line with crime trends in the University so as to combat the same.
(viii) Investigation and prevention of crime and apprehending perpetrators of such crime for the purpose of optimum protection of University property and lives.
(ix) Liaising with other security agencies such as the Zambia Police Service (ZPS), Anti-Corruption Commission, (ACC) and Drug Enforcement Commission, (DEC) on matters relating to the University security and investigations.
(x) Conducting security sensitization workshops for subordinates as part of training in line with the University policies to enable them acquire knowledge and skills required to meet the dictates of their responsibilities.
(xi) Critically examining and investigating theft reports in residential areas, schools, departments and other units through shift reports and other sources to establish crime data in terms of type of crime, prevalence and scene of occurrence.
(xii) Facilitating and securing management of peace and security related functions at the University.
(xiii) Preparing and controlling the unit functional budget and ensure that all expenditure is kept within approved financial allocation.
(xiv) Participating in the preparation of quarterly and annual operational performance reports.
Qualifications:
(i) Grade 12 Certificate or its equivalent.
(ii) Bachelor’s degree preferably in Social Sciences, Business Administration, Law, Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement.
(iii) Certificate in Police or Military Training
(iv) Certificate or Diploma in Defence and Security Studies, Criminal Justice, Correctional Services, Prosecution or Law.
(v) Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement or Defence and Security Studies would be an added advantage.
(vi) Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in security, law enforcement, or related field of which five (5) years must be at a rank of Assistant Superintendent, Captain or at Senior Management level.
(vii) Must be Computer literate.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
(i) Thorough knowledge of criminal justice and law enforcement protocols/procedures.
(ii) Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and communication skills.
(iii) Excellent problem-solving techniques, mediation and conflict resolution skills.
(iv) Knowledge in effective methods of handling and controlling crowds.
(v) Proficient in operating surveillance and electronic security equipment systems, CCTV, electronic card lock and/ or similar access control systems would be an added advantage.
(vi) Able to prepare clear and concise reports.
(vii) A high level of integrity and trust.

JOB TITLE: COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER (01 POSITION)

Purpose: To promote and protect the University of Zambia’s image, integrity and reputation and earn stakeholders’’ goodwill by dissemination of relevant and accurate information through various media.
Responsibilities:
(i) Prepares and guides in the preparation of work plans.
(ii) Participates in the formulation/review of policies and preparation/review of work manual.
(iii) Coordinates communication of University of Zambia public relations activities from all schools, units, departments and section in consultation with the Manager.
(iv) Participates in the implementation of Communication Strategy and policy.
(v) Plans and manages all University television and radio programmes.
(vi) Manages and maintains media contacts.
(vii) Produces press releases for manager’s attention.
(viii) Plans and manages press briefings and conducts media tours.
(ix) Designs and produces internal and external communication tools such as newsletter, flyers, posters etc.
(x) Assist in planning and managing of events in which the University takes part such as shows, trade fairs, graduation ceremonies, open days etc.
(xi) Drafts speeches for manager’s attention.
(xii) Ensures that website updates are managed well.
(xiii) Participates in events logistics and preparation.
(xiv) Coordinates all branding functions.
(xv) Prepares and participates in the preparation of daily activities and weekly reports.
Qualifications:
(i) Grade 12 Certificate or its equivalent.
(ii) Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, Corporate Communication, Marketing, Journalism or related business field.
Minimum five (5) years relevant work experience.
(iv) Must be Computer literate.

JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER (01 POSITION)

Purpose: To promote and protect the University of Zambia’s image, integrity and reputation and earn stakeholders’ goodwill by dissemination of relevant, accurate and timely information through various media.
Responsibilities:
(i) Prepares and participates in the preparation of work plans
(ii) Participates in the production of all in-house communication tools such as UNZA Newsletter and UNZA News Xpress.
(iii) Participates in the designing and updating of approved information on University of Zambia Website and Facebook page.
(iv) Assists in planning and managing of events in which the University takes part such as shows, trade fairs, graduation ceremonies, open days etc.
(v) Manages all photographs (soft and hard copies) of all major University events.
(vi) Designs University of Zambia banners, billboards, posters, flyers and any other communications tools.
(vii) Assisting in broadcast official information to University community on important events and matters
(viii) Participates in all branding functions.
(ix) Prepares and participates in the preparation of daily activities and weekly reports.
Qualifications:
(i) Grade 12 Certificate or its equivalent.
(ii) Diploma in Journalism, Public relations, Communication or Marketing.
(iii) Minimum of five (5) years relevant experience in graphic designing.
(iv) Must be Computer literate.

CENTRE FOR INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES

JOB TITLE: ICT TECHNICIAN (06 POSITIONS)

Purpose: To provide first line ICT support to staff and students in the University.
Responsibilities:
(i) Prepares and participates in the preparation of work plans.
(ii) Plans ICT in the Schools/Units.
(iii) Carries out ICT hardware maintenance.
(iv) Carries out software maintenance.
(v) Upgrades ICT equipment.
(vi) Undertakes computer network and telephone cable management.
(vii) Trains users in ICT usage.
(viii) Maintains ICT inventory for the School/Unit.
(ix) Prepares and participates in the preparation of daily activities and weekly reports.
Qualifications:
(i) Grade 12 Certificate or its equivalent.
(ii) Diploma in ICT with A+ and N+.
(iii) Minimum of two (2) years relevant work experience.
