SCHOOL OF MEDICINE

JOB TITLE:   ANIMAL ATTENDANT, DEPARTMENT OF PHYSIOLOGICAL SCIENCES  (1 POSITION)

Purpose:  Breeding and handling of small animals and rodents for undergraduate teaching and postgraduate research programmes.

Responsibilities:

(i)     Prepare work stations for students before commencement of laboratory sessions and dismantle at end of each session
(ii)     Pre-treatment and dissection of animals as instructed by the supervisor
(iii)    Breeding of rabbits, rats, mice guinea pigs for student laboratory sessions and postgraduate research
(iv)    Managing and maintaining the animal house as a resource for the uninterrupted supply of animals throughout the year
(v)    Cleaning and disinfecting animal house cages and compartments and general repair of cages
(vi)    Keep records and usage of animal feed and requisites used therein
(vii)    Stock control and usage of animal feed and requisites used therein
(viii)   Handling of various animals as per ethics of animal house regulations
(ix)    At the end of each laboratory session ambulate those that are recovering from drug effects and incinerate those that die during the course of the practical
(x)     Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate student projects when called upon even after hours
(xi)    Expected to work over week-ends and holidays as animals need constant attention like in a hospital setup

Qualifications:

(ii)    At least one (1) year work experience in animal handling

SCHOOL OF NURSING SCIENCES

VICE-CHANCELLOR’S UNIT - UNZA PRESS

JOB TITLE:   EDITOR (1 POSITION)

Purpose:  To coordinate the production of journals, academic books and other publishable materials from editing, typesetting and formatting to printing:

Responsibilities:

(i)      Prepares and participates in the preparation of Work Plans
(ii)     Participates in the formulation/review of policies, work manuals, procedures and related documents
(iii)     Participates in the preparation of publishing contracts/agreements and copyright matters
(iv)    Services Editorial Boards as Secretary as well as Editorial Assistant
(v)     Ensures that illustrations are correctly captioned and referred to in the text
(vi)    Sub-editing text written by a number of authors to ensure consistency with UNZA Press’ house style
(vii)    Maintains awareness of new words or phrases coming into popular usage with a view to ensuring they are appropriate for a readership

CENTRE FOR INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES

JOB TITLE:  WEB MASTER (1 POSITION)

Purpose:  Responsible for planning, designing, developing and implementing websites and web based applications.

Responsibilities:

(i)     Prepares and participates in the preparation of work plans.
(ii)    Participates in the formulation/review of policies and preparation/review of work manuals, procedures and related documents

(iii)    Designs, tests, implements and maintains web based applications.
(iv)   Designs HTML templates and support graphics in cognizance with the organization’s design standards.
(v)    Develops and maintains visual design guidelines for the web site in accordance with the standards.
(vi)   Designs graphical user interfaces for web based applications on the websites.
(vii)   Regularly and timely updates the website with accurate information.
(viii)  Provides back-end support of the University Web server.
(ix)   Organises user training for all web based applications.
(x)    Ensures that adequate security is embedded in all web based applications.
(xi)   Participates in the preparation of quarterly and annual operational performance review reports.

Qualifications:

(ii)    Bachelor’s degree in Computer Studies or ICT
(iii)    At least two (2) years of working experience in web based system, system analysis and design, web based systems

JOB TITLE:  SENIOR SYSTEMS DEVELOPER (1 POSITION)

Purpose:   Responsible for effectively and efficiently planning, organizing and controlling the activities of the project members during design, development and implementation of computer applications/operating system software to ensure provision of quality service to users at the University of Zambia.

Responsibilities:

(i)    Translation of user stories into statements of work, business process and business requirements and ensure that those statements are clear, precise and sufficient
(ii)    Design complex application software to meet business requirements
(iii)    Build application software
(iv)    Lead and coordinate software testing
(v)    Provide technical leadership on short  to medium length projects as required
(vi)    Knowledge transfer and training delivery
(vii)    Release management for both production and user acceptance test environments
(viii)    Provide technical and user support
(ix)    Supervision of subordinates

Qualifications:

JOT TITLE:  NETWORK ENGINEER (1 POSITION)

Purpose:   Plan, design and implement policies for the smooth operations of the University Network Infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

(i)    Design and document the University network infrastructure
(ii)    Maintaining the health of the University Internet connectivity
(iii)    Keep up-to-date backup of all communication device configuration files
(iv)    Planning, installing and configuring of wireless networks and other supporting network communication devices
(v)    Carry out local area network expansions and upgrades from time to time
(vi)    Carry out network troubleshooting and maintenance
(vii)    Develop and design network optimizations to enhance operational efficiency
(viii)    Carry out configurations of all network devices like routers, switches and firewalls
(ix)    Carry out POP room maintenance and cabling of all network media and technologies

JOB TITLE:  ICT SUPPORT OFFICER (1 POSITION)

Purpose:   Responsible for designing and implementation of systems to ensure the smooth operation of the user ICT equipment.

Responsibilities:

(i)    Planning proper systems that will provide efficiency in day-to-day support operations
(ii)    Providing general learner and ICT user support to staff and students
(iii)    Carrying out user ICT equipment upgrades and maintenance
(iv)    Carrying out field operations to ascertain user needs and requirements
(v)    Carrying out comprehensive ICT equipment inventories which would help in planning processes
(vi)    Carrying out user training in order to impart ICT skills to the users for efficient use of ICT equipment

Qualifications:

INSTITUTE OF DISTANCE EDUCATION

DEVELOPER (1 POSITION):    RE-ADVERTISED

Purpose:   Responsible for planning, developing and maintaining systems for the Institute of Distance Education.

Responsibilities:

(i)     Ensuring successful implementation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) projects in customer departments within available resources
(ii)     Planning and Controlling data security and integrity and production of application software of high quality and professional standards.
(iii)    Ensuring support for operating system software and application packages and in-house developed systems to ensure the systems are available for use by customers at all times.
(iv)   Maintain effective communication and working relationships with customers, suppliers, and supervisors to ensure maximum benefit is derived from installed ICT resources.
(v)    Co-ordinate training courses and seminars and provide consultancy to customer departments so as to promote the exploitation of ICT facilities by user personnel.
(vi)   Identify functions that require computerising and re-engineering existing computer or manual systems in order to enhance customer productivity through the application of ICT.
(vii)    Keep abreast with ICT developments and general business practices in order to give appropriate guidance to customers in the application of ICTs.
(viii)   Carry out Web Applications development.

Qualifications:

REGISTRAR’S UNIT

JOB TITLE:   MAINTENANCE ENGINEER (1 POSITION)

Purpose:  Responsible for planning and coordinating the implementation and inspection of maintenance   functions in order to meet the objectives of the Department.

Responsibilities:

(i)    Prepares and participates in the preparation of work plans
(ii)    Participates in the formulation/review of policies and preparation /review of work manuals and procedures
(iii)    Prepares schedules for rehabilitation, repair and maintenance of the infrastructure
(iv)    Assigns on-line / manual job requests and provides effective feedback to the Resident Engineer
(v)    Carries out infrastructure inspection surveys throughout the institution to monitor buildings and roads for maintenance or repair project progress and ensures conformance to engineering plans, specifications, construction and safety standards
(vi)    Ensure a coordinated approach to maintenance activities in the Resident Engineer's Department
(vii)    Prepares material schedules, bills of quantities and cost estimates for all  construction / maintenance works
(viii)    Ensures timely maintenance of infrastructure on both reactive and emergency basis
(ix)    Advises the Resident Engineer on maintenance works that require outsourcing
(x)    Participates in reviewing preliminary plans and specifications of construction contracts. Prepares authorizations for change orders regarding construction revisions
(xi)    Participates in co-coordinating in-house or contract works with utility companies and other Governmental Agencies and manage the timely construction of the same within budget
(xii)    Prepares CAD drawings and civil engineering designs for in-house works to acceptable Engineering standards and codes of practice for all University maintenance works and manage timely construction of the same within budget
(xiii)    Participates in calculating stresses and strains affecting proposed structures, taking into account of such factors as estimated load, water pressure and nature of building material to be used
(xiv)    Participates in analyzing reports, maps, drawings and tests on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics and other geological data to plan and design projects
(xv)    Participates in directing and performing surveys for proposed construction. Estimates costs and determines feasibility of projects based on analysis of collected data
(xvi)    Participates in ensuring that subordinates are trained and developed to enhance productivity by formulation and implementation of a training program for the department
(xvii)    Participates in the human resource management of the Resident Engineer’s unit
(xviii)    Participates in the preparation of  maintenance plans, budgets, procurement schedules, performance reports and program of works for the Resident Engineer’s unit

Qualifications:

(i)      Grade 12 School Certificate
(ii)      Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
(iii)     At least seven (7)  years work experience in the construction Industry
(iv)     Postgraduate qualification in construction or Property Management or Maintenance would be an added advantage

JOB TITLE:   PLUMBING SUPERINTENDENT (1 POSITION)

Purpose:  Responsible for : General administration of the plumbing section, construction, repair and maintenance of plumbing installations, water reticulation, water treatment, sewerage systems, underground drainage and metal fabrication for the University.

Responsibilities:

(i)     Taking a leading role in administering all  planning, organizing and performance review of the plumbing section
(ii)    Perform regular inspections and ensure timely maintenance and commissioning of all the associated plumbing installations and systems  (Water/sewerage pumps, tanks,  Pipes, valves, Sanitary appliances  etc)
(iii)    Preparation of operational reports and work plans
(iv)    Participation in the formulation/review of policies and preparation/review of work manuals and procedures
(v)    Carrying out feasibility studies for construction works in view of the plumbing needs
(vi)    Preparation of Bills of Quantities, Labor / materials schedules and CAD drawings for the plumbing section
(vii)    Participation in the preparation of tender documents and evaluation of bids
(viii)    Conduct evaluation of work in progress and prepare interim payment certificates
(ix)    Proficient supervision of subordinates and ensuring that in-house and outsourced projects are delivered within the required time, budget and quality standards
(x)    Preparation of  maintenance plans, procurement schedules, progress reports and program of works for the plumbing  section
(xi)    Participation in the human resource management of the section
(xii)    Carrying out any other duties lawfully assigned by the supervisor
