Purpose: To plan, coordinate and exercise general superintendence over the academic and administrative functions of the School within the University policy in order to achieve maximum efficiency and smooth running of postgraduate and executive education programmes in the School.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for on-going strategic planning for the Graduate School of Business and facilitates in providing a long-range vision, specific strategies, and detailed administrative and fiscal provisions to ensure the excellence of the School, its teaching, curricular and research programs.
  • Provides leadership in the management and growth of the Executive Education programmes in the Graduate School of Business.

VICE-CHANCELLOR’S OFFICE

JOB TITLE:   MANAGER, CONSULTANCY AND PROJECTS (01 POSITION)

Purpose: To commercially coordinate all consultancy and contract research undertakings of the University of Zambia.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out research and data collection to understand the client’s organisation;
  • Develop and implement internal and external marketing strategy;
  • Run focus groups and facilitate workshops;
  • Prepare business proposals and presentations;
  • Submit monthly progress reports and ensure data/information is accurate;
  • Identify issues and form hypotheses and solutions for clients;
  • Present findings and recommendations to clients;

JOB TITLE: DEPUTY LIBRARIAN (01 POSITION)

Purpose:  To organize, develop and maintain systematic collections of books, periodicals and other recorded materials and make them available to library users.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing and participating in the preparation of work plans.
  • Participating in the formulation/review of policies and preparation /review of work manuals and procedures and related documentation.
  • Participating in the preparation of staff schedules, delegate assignments and supervise staff.
  • Supervising the selection and acquisition of library materials.
  • Participating in teaching academic courses in the area of specialisation.
  • Participating in User Education Programme.
  • Liaising with management in the preparation of annual budgets and monitoring of expenditure.

INSTITUTE OF DISTANCE EDUCATION

JOB TITLE:   DEVELOPER (01 POSITION)

Purpose: Responsible for planning, developing and maintaining systems for the Institute of Distance Education.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring successful implementation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) projects in customer departments within available resources
  • Planning and Controlling data security and integrity and production of application software of high quality and professional standards.
  • Ensuring support for operating system software and application packages and in-house developed systems to ensure the systems are available for use by customers at all times. 
  • Maintain effective communication and working relationships with customers, suppliers, and supervisors to ensure maximum benefit is derived from installed ICT resources.
  • Co-ordinate training courses and seminars and provide consultancy to customer departments so as to promote the exploitation of ICT facilities by user personnel.
  • Identify functions that require computerising and re-engineering existing computer or manual systems in order to enhance customer productivity through the application of ICT.
  • Keep abreast with ICT developments and general business practices in order to give appropriate guidance to customers in the application of ICTs.
  • Carry out Web Applications development.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 School Certificate. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Studies or ICT related field.
  • At least two (2) years’ relevant experience in systems analysis and design, server and microcomputer environment and knowledge of various software and utilities.
  • Knowledge of 3 and 4 GL, DBMS language, LINUS, Windows and Microsoft products will be an added advantage.

JOB TITLE:   ICT SUPPORT OFFICER (01 POSITION)

Purpose: Responsible for designing and implementation of systems to ensure the smooth operation of the user of ICT equipment in the Institute of Distance Education.

Responsibilities:

  • Planning proper systems that will provide efficiency in day to day support operations.
  • Carrying out user ICT equipment upgrades and maintenance.
  • Carrying out field operations to ascertain user needs and requirements.
  • Carrying out network installations and network segment expansions.
  • Keeping an inventory of all ICT equipment.
  • Conducting user training in order to impart ICT skill to the users for efficient use of ICT equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 School Certificate.
  • Bachelor’s degree in an ICT field.
  • A+ certification and /or CCNA is a must.

SCHOOL OF VETERINARY MEDICINE

JOB TITLE:   CHIEF SCIENTIST, CENTRAL SERVICES AND SUPPLY UNIT (01 POSITION)

Purpose:  Responsible for providing technical and administrative support in the department.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing, coordinating and participating in the preparation or review of work plans, policies, work/laboratory   manuals, laboratory report books, procedures and related documentation.
  • Planning, demonstrating and supervising animal handling procedures and experiments as required.
  • Handling farm equipment and animal handling facilities.
  • Planning and coordinating the repair and maintenance of the school infrastructure.

JOB TITLE: ANIMAL ATTENDANT, CENTRAL SERVICES AND SUPPLY UNIT (3 POSITIONS)

Purpose: Performing animal and crop husbandry duties (feeding animals, birds, laboratory animals, weeding in crops and pastures, gathering grass for animal bedding and collection of hay from fields).

Responsibilities:

  • Feeding of animals; large and small (calves, goats, pigs, sheep, chickens, rabbits, rats and mice).
  • Providing water to all animal species as in (above).
  • Cleaning and disinfecting animal rooms including cages for rats, mice, rabbits and chickens.
  • Repairing and maintenance of paddocks and crush pens for easy control of animals.
  • Sowing of pasture grass for ruminant animals and green crops for experimental animals that are in confinement.
  • Handling and burning carcasses from the Post – Mortem room when assigned to do so.
  • Assisting students conduct practicals/collect samples in a friendly manner.
  • Assisting the superiors in all areas of animal handling.
  • Handling all animal species including rats, mice, and chickens.
  • Performing manual work; cleaning of horse stables, pens, and cages and ploughing in the garden.
  • Spending long hours in the bush herding animals and be able to identify sick from healthy animals while with the animals and reporting such cases immediately.
  • Controlling of internal and external parasites.
  • Perform any other duties of emergency nature other than those prescribed above e.g assisting in other Departments.

Qualifications:

  • Grade12 Certificate.
  • At least one (1) year work experience in animal handling.

JOB TITLE:   SCIENTIST (PHYSIOLOGY), DEPARTMENT OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES (1 POSITION)

Purpose:  To assist the Chief Scientist in providing administrative and technical support to the department. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Chief Scientist in supervision of technical staff and allocation of duties.
  • Supervising technical staff in laboratory techniques and operation of instruments.
  • Ensuring satisfactory care and maintenance of laboratory equipment used for teaching and research.
  • Participate in carrying departmental consultancy works in analysing samples or specimen from clients within and outside the University community.
  • Facilitating procurement of laboratory equipment, spare parts and other requisites.
  • Participating in the preparation of Departmental budgets.
  • Maintaining updated inventory of laboratory equipment and requisites as well as other reports on laboratory operations.

JOB TITLE: TECHNOLOGIST, DEPARTMENT OF BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES (01 POSITIONS)

Purpose: To prepare and conduct student practicals in Biochemistry, Physiology, Histology, Embryology and Anatomy.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the Scientist in setting up experiments as well as performing demonstrations to the students on how to operate technical laboratory equipment.
  • Responsible for technical preparation of laboratory practicals for students.
  • Ensuring proper treatment and storage of laboratory samples.
  • Assisting in ensuring safety and hygiene in the laboratories and giving First Aid to accident victims and submit   records of accidents to the Scientist.
  • Carrying out regular maintenance of laboratory equipment;
  • Participating in the production of laboratory manuals and report books.
  • Assisting the academic staff in research and consultancy work.
  • Preparing biological samples and chemical solutions for preservation of specimen.
  • Assisting in taking inventory of the laboratory chemicals and equipment in the laboratory.

Qualifications

  • Higher National Diploma/Technologies Diploma/Diploma in Biomedical Sciences or related filed.
  • At least three (3) years post qualification relevant work experience.

JOB TITLE:  SCIENTIST (MEDICINE), DEPARTMENT OF CLINIAL STUDIES (01 POSITION)

Purpose: Responsible for technical supervision of the small and large animal clinics. Also responsible for Technical arrangement of medicine.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating work activities for technical staff in the clinics.
  • Supervising and assessing work performance of subordinate staff.
  • Contributing towards the preparations and production of student practical manuals.

  • Assisting in animal handling during treatment and student’s clinical practicals.
