ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

Chemistry is the perfect choice for students with lively and inquiring minds. It affects all aspets of our lives - food, clothing shelter and health. It is therefore related many fields of science and technology such as physics, biology, medicine, pharmacy and in many processes.

The Department of Chemistry is one of six departments in the School of Natural Sciences which offers traditional chemistry courses as well as the not so tradition such medicinal chemistry at undergraduate and postgraduate level. It is actively enganged in research and consultancy involving not only fundamental aspects of the science but also in development chemical technologies appropriate to Zambia.


Mission Statement

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Zambia aims to train personnel for scientific, academic institutions and the chemical industry in Zambia with special emphasis on the primary needs of the nation. The department, through its programmes, strives to establish meaningful relationships with the local chemical industry to keep the curriculum relevant to local industries. It is dedicated to providing quality services to the community and chemical industries through its research and consultancy service.

It is the departments mission to

    * train quality personnel for scientific and academic institutions and chemical industries in the nation
    * address the primary needs of the nation through chemistry
    * promote collaboration with local industry in order to enhance the quality of chemical products n Zambia
    * look after and safe guard the interests of the community on matters of a chemical nature

ZPPA COMMENDS UNZA The Zambia Public Procurement Authority (ZPPA) has commended the University of Zambia Procurement Committee for adhering to the provisions of the Public Procurement Act. This is contained in a letter dated 8th November 2012 written to the University Vice-chancellor Professor Stephen Simukanga.ZPPA Director General Danies Chisenda encouraged the Procurement Unit and the Procurement Committee to continue with the good work. The Procurement Committee has also been encouraged to continue to submitting minutes in good time immediately after confirmation.
