Today June 1st 2017, the Confucius Institute at the University of Zambia (CI-UNZA) with its partners SINOHYDRO Zambia Limited and the Chinese Medical Team at Levy Mwanawasa General Hospital joined the rest of the World in celebrating International Children’s Day.
In relation to this years’ theme: Focusing on child rights and well-being, we visited the Christian Alliance for Children in Zambia (House of Moses) where we donated various items.
In his speech, CI-UNZA Director Dr. Sande Ngalande noted that the institute was focused on contributing to the development of children in Zambia. He explained that it was being done through expanding the offering of Chinese Language Education to schools in Zambia.
“We cannot keep a blind eye to children that have difficulties in accessing great opportunities for their development. We have therefore established teaching centers around the country to enable us expand offering the Chinese language education to other schools in Zambia,” he said.
Also speaking at same the event Yu Gang SINOHYDRO Zambia Limited Manager and Qi Zuhong Director of the Chinese Medical Team noted that social cooperate responsibility is one of the best virtues of Chinese people. They further noted that both entities would continue working with CI—UNZA in contributing to the development of children in Zambia.
“We will continue supporting this venture and promise to donate essentials needed for the well-being of the children. They are the future of tomorrow,” Gang said.
And Daisy Muzukutwa, House of Moses Executive Director expressed gratitude to the Chinese team for the donations made to House of Moses stating that the donations will have an impact on the children.
International children’s Day was proclaimed in Geneva, Switzerland during the World Conference for the well-being of Children in 1925 and is celebrated on June 1st.
