The 12th Global Confucius Institute Conference is convened at XI`AN CHINA. The topic of this grand conference is " Development of Confucius Institutes and Building of a Community of Shared Furure for Mankind ". Our Vice Chancellor Prof. Luke Evuta Mumba is a Distinguished Guest who is greatly honored to be invited to the confuerence where he makes important remarks on behalf of Confucius Institute at the University of Zambia!

24 students from RHODES PARK SCHOOL visited the library and museum of CI on Oct.12th,2017. Dr. Sande, the Acting Director of CI, Mr. Zulu,the manager of library and Ms.Guo ,the Chinese teacher gave speeches about Chinese language learning,Chinese exams,and Chinese culture respectively.
Dr. Sande highly appreciated that an increasing number of Zambian students had been to China by Passing Chinese exams, participating in “Chinese bridge”Chinese Proficiency Competition etc. . Meanwhile ,he expounded the view of“LEARN CHINESE DOUBLE YOUR WORLD”. In the end of the tour, Dr. Sande interacted with students and answered their questions actively.
The trip was a success, for it developed students’ interest in understanding Chinese culture and motivating students to study hard. They all said that they would learn Chinese hard and endeavour to study in China in the future.
Memorandum of Understanding on Vocational Education and Training
Recently, the University of Zambia and the Shanghai Jingge Technology Company Limited the signed an intent to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on Vocational Education and Training. Once signed, a joint Vocational Educational Training Centre will be established at the University of Zambia. For a start, the focus will be on automotive mechanics. The acting director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Zambia Dr. Sande Ngalande is the coordinator of the project.

Ms. Guo Yao is Transferred to LIBES
On 6th October, 2017, the Acting Director of Confucius Institute at the University of Zambia Dr. Sande went to Mulungushi University to transfer Ms. Guo Yao to LIBES. They held a farewell party for their beloved, excellent and responsible colleague Ms. Guo Yao. They also had a workshop about the Chinese Teaching in Mulungushi University.
CI Directors Meet H.E. Dr.Kaunda on the 68 Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China
On 28th September 2017, the grand reception of marking the 68th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China was held in Chinese Embassy . The directors and several teachers of Confucius Institute at the University of Zambia were invited to attend.
In this grand event, the acting Director of the CI Dr. Sande and the Chinese director Prof. Li Qingjun gained an opportunity to report the development of CI to the first president Dr. Kenneth Kaunda H.E. Dr. Kaunda is also the founder of the University of Zambia. He was deeply interested in education, especially the current scholarship between Zambia and China. After the report by two directors, he highly praised the contributions we made on China-Zambia relationships and encouraged us to make greater achievements through joint effort.

Chinese Bridge- Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students

CI-UNZA Hosts Chinese Bridge
Last week Friday July 7, 2017 the Confucius Institute at the University of Zambia (CI-UNZA) held the Chinese Bridge competition for Foreign Secondary School Students.
The competition had 10 promising Zambian- Secondary school Chinese students displaying their mastery of the Chinese language and culture.
The aim of the competition is to ignite the passion and interest of young Zambian Secondary School students in learning Chinese and in better understanding Chinese Language and Culture.
Schools that participated in the competition included Masaiti Boarding Secondary School, Sesheke Secondary School, Nyumba Yanga Secondary School, Kalonga Secondary School, Kabompo Secondary School and Chipata Day Secondary School.
The top 3 spots were awarded to Patricia Phiri (1st place) from Nyumba Yanga Secondary School, Musonda Lusale (2nd place) from Chipata Day Secondary School and Kabo Mulenga (3rd place). While the remaining participants were awarded consolation prizes.
Since its initiation in 2008, the competition is well known for its cultural and educational exchanges worldwide and has been held 9 times. Witnessing over 900 contestants representing more than 50 countries and over 20,000 students participating in the preliminary competitions in their own countries.
Awarding of the prizes is based on the student’s Chinese language proficiency, knowledge about China, Chinese Culture talents and comprehensive learning abilities.
The 1st place finalist will represent Zambia at the Chinese Bridge - Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School students final in China.
