History

The University of Zambia Library was established in 1966 and officially opened in August 1969 by the first Republican President, Dr Kenneth D. Kaunda. The building which was designed to hold 300,000 volumes and seat 1,650 readers is a fine example of modern architecture. At the centre of its activities , the Library's vision is to have in place a conducive environment appropriate to providing an efficient, timely and user-tailored service.
