Biography

Prem Jain is Professor in Physics at the University of Zambia where he holds the UNESCO Chair in Renewable Energy and Environment. He showed exceptional vision in recognizing the importance of Renewable Energy and Climate Change more than 30 years ago and introduced these disciplines in the Department of Physics, University of Zambia. In 1989 he founded the Energy and Environment Research Group (EERG) at the University of Zambia and continues to lead its activities.

Prem Jain served the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in the two areas. As UNDP (Namibia) Chief Technical Advisor to the Government of Namibia, he founded and successfully accomplished the Namibian Renewable Energy Program during 2004-06. As UNDP (Zambia) Technical Coordinator, he founded and spearheaded the activities of the Climate Change Facilitation Unit (CCFU) in Zambia during 2009-12. In 2018, with others support he founded the Solar Energy Centre (SEC) of Excellence at the University of Zambia. He serves on several national and international committees in the two fields.
